¡Buenos días amigos!

My squad and I have been in Jacó, Costa Rica for a little over 2 weeks now! God is so evidently on the move in this city and will continue to be far after the time we are here.

Over the last two weeks, I have gotten to be apart of light post ministry! I’m sure your wondering what that even is. If you guessed painting light posts, you would be right! Up and down both sides of the main strip of town there are beautifully painted light posts to brighten the city.

Where do you come in you might ask!

Well, we get to come in and to touch up the paint that has started to chip away and we also get to paint new poles!

The beautiful part of this ministry is we get to spend all of our time in the heart of downtown! This provides so many opportunities to talk to locals and tourists alike as they walk the street to the many restaurants or the beach.

This has opened the door for so many cool conversations! People will stop to just thank us and will stay to hear what and why we are doing what we are doing.

Sometimes others will even stop and help us paint! Sometimes we get to share about what the Lord is doing and invite people to church and other times we pour out love by just listening to the stories of the people we encounter.

Even if it takes us all day to complete one pole or if we don’t get to talk to a soul, we are bringing light into the darkness within this city just by adding more color and being the hands and feet of Jesus!

We are lighting the way home to Jesus by pouring out love on this city and people notice! They notice the brightness of the colors that now fill their home and they notice the people taking the time to bring it and they want to know more. That curiosity is just the start to leading them home to Jesus the ultimate source of light and life.

John 1:5

“That light shines in the darkness and yet the darkness did not overcome it.”

Psalm 139:12

“Even the darkness is not dark to you. The night shines like day; darkness and light are alike to you.”

That’s all for now! Thanks for reading my blog and for the continued support! If there is anyway I can pray for you, let me know by hitting contact me and sending a quick email! I love praying for people!

Praises:

-The Lord has been teaching me a lot about what it means to rest!

-I am so thankful for this community that is so quick to love me so well! The Lord has given me such a soft heart to be able to receive feedback and be able to grow from it and that has been such an answered prayer!

Prayers:

-My health with headaches has been a continued struggle, so please pray for continued endurance.

-Pray for COVID regulations to continue to be open to allowing us to travel and do ministry

With Love,

Kalyssa

  1. Princess of the King, “light” is a great adjective to describe you. Encouraging to hear you are learning to rest, American Christianity needs that lesson. Awesome to see you are bringing Kingdom into a seemingly non-spiritual thing like painting light poles. The Kingdom is not compartmentalized.
    Miss you
    See you in January!!

  2. It is fun to see how painting light poles does just that. brings the light of Jesus to a world that badly needs to see those lamps on a hill! So proud of you for reflecting that light onto others so that they may see their need for a Savior! Praying for you and your team as you do His work! Love you!

  3. I didn’t even think about this when I heard you guys would be doing “light post” ministry. I love how meeting a physical need can translate into a spiritual need. Thanks for allowing the Spirit to use you in a way that brings light into the city of Jaco 🙂
