Oh, Where the Potatoes are From?

Oh! Where the potatoes are from? Is the typical response I get when people find out that I am from Idaho.

As some of you may know my roots with agriculture run deep. My Grandparents farmed for many years in Iowa and raised everything from corn and beans to livestock. Agriculture has always been a way that I have felt connected to my roots both of my family’s heritage.

Upon moving to Idaho with my family 5 years ago, I realized I wasn’t as much of a city girl as I originally thought. I quickly became connected with The National FFA organization and learned even more about agriculture. Through a variety of experiences, I started to become passionate about sharing agriculture with everyone!

Going on the World Race, this passion was something I had thought I would have to leave behind.

How could my love for agriculture ever further the gospel?

What I didn’t realize at the time was just how many doors my love for agriculture could open for the gospel. As I walked the streets of Costa Rica and now Guatemala, I have seen so many people selling fresh produce. My love for agriculture gives me an instant connection to them!

I quickly realized that the natives are so proud of the produce they grow and are always excited to share that with others. Whether they are telling you how to cook it or how it is grown you get to learn more about them. Which also opens a door for you to get to share the gospel or pray for them.

It is such a small thing that makes a big difference. A place of common ground and a door to deep connection. The Lord has given me this passion to be able to open doors to the community and I can’t wait to see where my roots lead me!

Thank you all so much for your continued support! Have an amazing week!

With love from Guatemala,

Kalyssa
