Chaco Dust

It was a few years back, when my family and I were on a hike that I remember my dad first saying “it is about the journey, not the destination!”

Eyes rolling in my head, I didn’t understand the depth of what he had just said. In fact, my thought was whatever, I want to get to the waterfall, so can we go faster?

Its funny how accurate this is to how I have found myself viewing life lately. I see the goal, the idea of where I want to go or the idea that I want to have a plan and gotten caught up in it. Stress penetrating my peace and filling my mind with confusion, then my mind begins to spin. What if I make the wrong decision on what my next season holds? What if I actually am not called there in this season, but a few seasons down the road? What if my sifting process lets others down? What if, what if, what if!

Desperate to get to the desired destination or illusion there of, I had lost sight of the journey. I had forgotten that the journey the Lord has taken me on was actually what got me to this point and that It is impossible to jump from point a to point b.

I love what Romans 8:28 reminds believers of.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

If we truly believe this than, we can trust that even the detours on the journey have purpose. That through each part of our story, even when we have turned our back on the Lord he is working all things for our good. He is just waiting for us to turn back around and say thy will be done. I release control and trust you to lead me on this journey, even if I pick up a little extra chaco dust on the way.

When we have the trust to view life as a journey not a destination, the pressure is off! We don’t have to know exactly where we are headed, but keep taking little steps of faith towards where God is calling us. He promises to never leave us or forsake us several times in the Bible! He will direct us and give us wisdom of where to go, if we just ask. In the waiting of the answer there is a journey of growth happening too.

God is walking besides, behind, and before you, so what do you have to fear?

General Updates:

Our time in Guatemala is coming to a close and on March 21st my squad will begin our trek to Eswatini, Africa! I am excited to see what the Lord has in store for our time in Eswatini and for all the new ways he will reveal himself to me. During our time in Eswatini, we will likely not have any or very minimal access to wifi, so I will likely not be posting any blogs, but I am excited to share what the Lord did when we arrive back in the States for final debrief! Thank you for your continued support and as always feel free to reach out with any questions or prayer requests!!

With love,

Kalyssa
